Lonrho Mining is an Australian company with a portfolio of diamond production and exploration assets in southern Africa. The Company recently changed its name from Nare Diamonds. The name change reflects a new strategy to selectively acquire exploration and producing mining assets over the African continent whilst adding significant value to its existing diamond assets through exploration success and trial mining activities. We have interests in five projects:
ANGOLA
The Lulo Diamond Concession is a highly prospective 3,000km² diamond concession which Lonrho Mining intends to develop, with Endiama, the national diamond company of Angola. Lulo is surrounded by concessions which are operated by the largest diamond companies in the world, including De Beers, Trans Hex and Alrosa. Lulo is highly regarded for the following reasons:
- 29 known kimberlite pipes and artisanal alluvial mining within the concession.
- a world class location, Lulo is adjacent to the Petra Diamonds / BHP owned Alto Cuilo and Luange concessions.
- work program designed to complete aero-magnetic survey and follow up with bulk sampling and drilling.
SOUTH AFRICA
The Schmidtsdrift alluvial diamond mine is a producing mine with consistent historical production from prospecting and trial mining activities. Lonrho Mining re-commenced trial mining in April 2006 which yielded 13,372 carats as at the end of September 2007, including a rare 235.03 carat diamond. The Company also has interests in the following projects:
32.33 carat diamond discovered at Schmidtsdrift Mine September 2007
The 235 carat diamond discovered at the Schmidtsdrift mine, April 2006
66.60 Carat Stone recovered at the Schmidtsdrift Mine, March 2007
